A Right To Have Fun

People love jumping on the “all students do is have fun and I hate them I hate them I HATE THEM for the fun they are having and I am not” bandwagon. I can’t understand why they would do, but come on people, give us a break: we are paying for it. The way I see it, for the money that we pay the system every year we should be able to do whatever we want. As long as we get the work done, who cares?
And actually, when you think about it, what if we don’t get our work done? It’s our own future we’re ruining, right? So surely we should be allowed to ruin it in style if that’s what we so choose to do? Surely that should be within the bounds of reasonableness? (And yes, for the money I am paying i get to spell things wrong in my free time, thanks.)
I think so. I think people forget sometimes that being a student is all about taking advantage of that time. After all, once we’ve left study then it’s the big bad world for us, and there’s no going back once you get sucked in. You should know. You’re probably already in it.
So next time you see students having unfathomably high levels of fun, just remember that you were young once, and we will be older one day two. Granted, you’ll be even older and worrying about higher-class things such as horse insurance and what supermarket to shop at, but I think I should stop there. I have a feeling I have made my point.
