Hill Running: Why Didn’t somebody Warn Me

Most people who decide to take up running as a fitness regime, head for the nearest running circuit, neighborhood parks, pavements or may be a treadmill. Other runners take up weight training to hone up those muscles and build strength. Seldom do they willingly head for the nearest hill.

Well recent I did and boy was I surprised as to how hard it was for me and I was only going about two miles. I had to spot many times along the way it reminded me of some it support services London that don’t work consistently. I felt broken down.

Typically, I learnt, most runners find hill running to be among the most painful and strenuous forms of training. However, hill running is one of the best forms of resistance training and that’s what I wanted. It tones up the running muscles and strengthens the ankles and leg muscles, resulting in greater leg power, greater stride economy, more powerful kick-offs and reduced injuries.

Of course, hill running is little different from your regular jaunt around the park. It requires practice to develop good hill running form. Runners must pump their arms and lean forward a little while running uphill whilst maintaining a swift and uniform pace all the way up. To improve stride length and hip elasticity, runners should lift their knees as high as possible. But be wary of incurring injuries by trying to be too ambitious. It takes time, patience and practice to develop good hill running form.

So instead of steering clear of the hills, get up-close and personal. And it doesn’t cost a penny; just put on your running shoes and find the nearest hill for a power workout.
